Bengaluru: The Work Integrated Learning Programs (WILP) division of the Birla Institute of Technology & Science (BITS), Pilani launched the M.Tech. Cloud Computing degree program to help working professionals and their employers keep pace with the ever-changing world of digitalization and, in particular, the rapid proliferation of cloud-based solutions. It is a four-semester degree program designed exclusively for working professionals, so they can pursue an industry-relevant curriculum in Cloud Computing, without having to stop working.

Effective Cloud Adoption – A Critical Key for the IT Industry

Apart from the global impact, the large scale adoption of cloud is expected to be one of the major contributors to the Indian economy. IT professionals in technical positions, such as DevOps Engineer, Systems Engineer, Network Administrators, Cloud Services Engineer or techno-management positions, such as Infrastructure Lead/Infrastructure Manager will also derive significant value by pursuing this program.

Deep experiential learning – a highlight of the program

The M.Tech. The Cloud Computing program will make extensive use of public cloud-based lab environments with best-in-class compute, database, storage, and application lifecycle services, as well as modern open source tools/frameworks, including those from Apache.

The education delivery methodology is a mix of classroom and experiential learning, including lab exercises, assignments, case studies, and work-integrated activities. The program also uses a continuous assessment system for regular assessment to provide quick and frequent feedback to allow working professionals to track their progress.

The first, second and third semesters of the program cover four courses each. The fourth semester covers dissertation/project work, which allows students to apply the concepts and techniques learned during the program.

Elaborating on the other strengths of this program, Professor Anita Ramachandran, Head of Computing and Information Systems Group at BITS Pilani WILP said, “Among various key aspects, the program offers a set of courses that help learners to Understand the design and development of cloud-native applications using existing services and APIs, and the design and architecture choices made in a cloud platform from a vendor perspective. It will also help them design and implement a cloud-native application prototype or migrate an existing solution and the ongoing lifecycle of an application from development, deployment to management and operations.
