Blockchain allows creators to package and monetize their digital content in new ways. However, it’s not the only tech stack that does this. Artificial intelligence (AI) is also redefining creativity in the digital space, and here’s how.
Generative AI models
DALL-E, Stable Diffusion, and Midjourney are all generative AI models. They use artificial intelligence algorithms to automatically generate digital content based on a simple prompt that would otherwise take a long time for a human. This means that Web3 creators and digital artists can create huge collections of unique pieces by themselves in a short time, which greatly reduces the cost of producing digital content and stimulates artists’ creativity through “creativity”. of a machine mind.
Earlier in 2022, NVIDIA announced Get3D, an AI model that uses only 2D images to generate 3D shapes with high-fidelity textures and intricate geometric details. These objects are created in the same file format as any other 3D software, allowing users to easily extract content from the software and into other programs.
Traditionally, the 3D workflow requires a special skill set and many hours of work, which increases production costs and time for any project that requires 3D, such as games, animated films or commercials. . NVIDIA’s new tool makes it easier to create 3D content.
As the world shifts to immersive interfaces like Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR), we need tools like Get3D to enable everyone, not just 3D specialists with lots of free time , to contribute to 3D worlds. In this way, generative models like Get3D could disrupt 3D content creation the same way Squarespace/Wix did for website development. In fact, as mentioned in an Analytics India article, it might not be long before we can input a text prompt into an AI model and generate a full 3D world from it. Want to create a mystical underwater world for your new ocean conservation project? Simply power up a prompt and immerse yourself in a fully customized environment using VR or AR. If you don’t like some features, use the same template to restructure the environment.
A question of copyright
A recurring problem with generative models is copyright. Although Web3 largely resolves the issue of digital ownership – Who owns this JPEG? Who once owned it? – it does not help us answer this question when artificial intelligence creates something.
Interestingly, visual media conglomerate Getty Images announced in late 2022 its decision to ban content created by AI models like Midjourney, DALL-E and Stable Diffusion. According to a statement from the organization, “There are genuine copyright concerns regarding the releases of these models and unresolved rights issues regarding the imagery, image metadata and people contained in the imagery. We are proactive for the benefit of our clients. This is as much an ethical issue as it is a legal one. When are AI models considered creators?
AI Nouns Town: AI-NFT and virtual characters
Finally, AI can be used to create virtual characters. To describe what that looks like, I’ll dive into a project called The Simulation run by game studio Fable.
In The Simulation, you can create and nurture humans and AI creatures that have minds of their own. In the first sub-world of The Simulation called AI Nouns Town, NFT owners can import their used characters into the game and bring them to life using procedural animation, natural language processing, computer vision, synthetic speech and reinforcement learning. .
While the project is still in development, the idea is to bring to life NFT characters such as Bored Apes, Doodles, or Deadfellaz that otherwise sit in owners’ wallets doing nothing. Initially, characters in the NFT series are formed and exist in isolation, playing by rules defined by values and culture. In describing the project, Fable CEO Edward Saatchi envisions a conversation between a Doodle and a Bored Ape, with each character gifted with unique personality traits, emotions, and even memories that will define their interaction.
The Big Vision ties into Artificial General Intelligence, or AGI, where NFT characters have the same intelligence as humans. The original vision for The Simulation came from movies like Westworld, The Matrix, and free guyin which virtual AI beings play against each other and mingle seamlessly with real humans in a virtual environment like a metaverse.
Final Thoughts
As AI and immersive technologies like VR/AR improve, we will continue to see their convergence. As we move towards more and more virtual environments and continue to add a virtual layer on top of the real world using augmented reality, we will continue to see more AI-generated content, whether whether works of art, 3D models, complete environments or even artificial beings with their own intelligence. and consciousness.
If this sounds like science fiction, that’s because it was considered so years ago. But now it is becoming reality. Welcome to the acceleration economy.
